What is Wastewater Evaporation?

Wastewater evaporation is a thermal treatment process used to reduce the volume of industrial wastewater by removing the water content through evaporation. This process separates water from pollutants, including salts, heavy metals, oils, chemicals, and other non-volatile contaminants, leaving behind a concentrated waste or sludge.

It is widely used in industries where traditional biological or chemical treatment methods are not suitable or economical, particularly for high Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels, oily effluents, or hazardous wastewater streams.

How Does It Work?

  1. Wastewater Collection : The contaminated water is collected in a holding tank or directly fed into the evaporator.
  2. Heating the Wastewater : Heat is applied using various sources such as oil, gas, steam, biomass, or electricity. The system raises the temperature of the wastewater, turning the water portion into vapour.
  3. Evaporation Process: As the temperature rises, the water begins to evaporate. Contaminants like dissolved solids, oils, and heavy metals remain in the tank as concentrated residues or sludge.
  4. Vapor Discharge or Condensation: The water vapour can either be:
  5. Released into the atmosphere (in open systems), or Condensed into distilled water for reuse (in closed systems with condensers).
  6. Sludge Collection: The leftover sludge is collected at the bottom and can be safely disposed of or further treated depending on the waste type.
